This type of shutter covers the whole window but consists of two sets of panels, one on top of the other that open and operate independently.

They are extremely versatile and give excellent privacy and light control. Many people choose shutters because they make an eye-catching design feature that can add value to your home.

Tier on Tier Shutters

As with most made to measure products these days, there are so many options to consider. At Dobss we liketo make your decision making as easy as possible, to help you on your way to choosing the perfect shutter we have listed some of the options available.

Available Options

Colour. 18 colours available as standard, or choose our custom colour matching service (additional cost).
Louvre Size. Choose between 47mm, 63mm, 76mm, 89mm,114mm. Our most popular louvre size is 76mm and 63mm.
Control Option. The louvres of the shutter can be operated by a control rod or an invisible easy-tilt mechanism. The control rod can be located in the centre of each shutter panel or off-set to one side. Simply grab the control rod and move in an up and down motion to tilt the louvres. The invisible easy-tilt mechanism is built into the framework of the shutter panel, to operate the louvres simply grab one louvre and tilt it to your desired angle, all the other louvres will tilt at the same time. The invisible easy-tilt mechanism is our most popular control method, giving the shutter a contemporary look. The control rod operation gives a more traditional appearance.
Hinges. Once you have decided on the colour of your shutters, you will need to decide whether to have matching or decorative hinges. There are 16 different hinge colour options including chrome, stainless steel, antique brass and black. At Dobbs 95% of our customers choose a matching hinge.
Configuration. Most shutters will have between one & six shutter panels. We always try and match your shutter to your window, if your window has 3 window panels we will advise a shutter with 3 shutter panels.
Hardwood, MDF or PVC shutter. We normally recommend a MDF shutter for most installations, especially if you require a painted finish rather than a stained finish. There isn't any real benefit choosing a more expensive hardwood shutter if it is going to be painted. We will recommend a hardwood shutter if your shutter panels are large or shaped. The hardwood shutter is lighter than the MDF shutter and can be manufactured to larger panel sizes. We also recommend hardwood shutters if you prefer a stained finish. The PVC shutters are ideal in areas where they may become wet. These shutters are 100% waterproof and only available with stainless steel hinges. At Dobbs, over 90% of our customers will choose MDF shutters.

Over the last 6 months Dobbs have fitted our whole house with curtains and blinds. Visit our showroom or call one of our local telephone numbers to arrange an appointment.
We visit your home to measure up and show you our shutter samples. We offer friendly & knowledgeable advice and guidance to ensure you make the correct decision.
We leave you with a written quotation which is valid for 3 months.
If you are happy with our quotation please get in touch, we will give you an installation appointment when you place your order. We require a 50% deposit for shutter orders and the balance payment is due when the products are installed.
On the installation day, our fitter will visit at the arranged time to install the products. We will show you the finished product and answer any questions you may have. All our products will be installed to comply with child safety requirements and are covered by our 12-month Dobbs guarantee. Our shutters also have an additional 3-year manufacturers parts guarantee.

How long do shutters take to be fitted?

Our most popular and comprehensive range of shutters are installed within 12 weeks. We offer a range of PVC shutters and Perfect Fit shutters which are typically installed within 3-4 weeks.

How much do shutters cost?

Our shutters prices start at £340m2.

Should I choose Hardwood or MDF shutters?

Both types are excellent, we typically recommend MDF if you are looking for a painted finish. The MDF shutter is extremely strong and hardwearing, they are heavier than hardwood shutters, thus there are restrictions on how wide each shutter panel can be made. Hardwood is recommended for stained finishes, large panels and shaped shutters. At Dobbs, 90% of all the shutters we sell are made from MDF.

What options do I have when choosing shutters?

- Mid-rail or no mid-rail, on some occasions we will recommend a mid-rail in your shutter which is a horizontal fixed profile, this is often positioned to match a mid-rail in your window design. Shutters over 1800mm require a mid-rail for strength.

- Split tilt or full tilt, we can make the bottom louvres operate independently to the top louvres in your shutter panels, this option is great for privacy as you can close the bottom section for privacy whilst still allowing light into the room through the open top section. The split tilt can be at any height, not just halfway.

- Full Height, Cafe Style, Tier on Tier or Track shutters, our advisor will guide you to make the correct decision. Full height shutters are our most popular option and cover the entire window. Often customers like the idea of Tier on Tier shutters however a full height shutter with a split tilt is often a better solution. Track shutters are ideal for large glazed areas and bi-fold doors.

- Panel Configuration, how many panels do you require on the shutter? We configure the shutter to match your window, if your window has 3 panels, we will normally advise you to have 3 shutter panels.

How long will I have to wait get my order fitted?

Curtains take between 4-6 weeks from ordering to installation and roman blinds take 4 weeks. Most other blinds take 2-3 weeks, hardwood and MDF shutters taking 12 weeks, U.K. made PVC shutters have a 4 week lead-time. We make most of our products in our Lincoln factory and soft furnishing work-rooms, on some occasions we can offer a speedier turnaround time.
